Pahela Baishakh celebrated amid huge enthusiasm in N-dists

Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the new Bangla calendar Year-1416, was welcomed through various programmes with huge enthusiasm, fresh hopes and aspirations in Rangpur and adjoining northern districts on Tuesday. The socio-cultural, political and government organisations and NGOs chalked out massive programmes to celebrate the greatest festival of the Bangalees, Pahela Baishakh, in a befitting manner with participations of people irrespective of their caste, creed and religion.

The celebrations turned into national festivals as thousands of all aged people took part in the Baishakhi processions that paraded the streets carrying colourful festoons, placards and banners, wearing masks and singing Baishakhi songs. The traders in villages, hats, bazars, markets, groceries, sales centres and important places organized the century-old traditional halkhata and distributed sweets among their customers and updated their accounts with a hope of better businesses in New Year.
Colourful competitions like kite flying, cycle races, swimming, different competitions for the children and students including sports and hundreds of ‘Baishakhi Mela’ were organised. In Rangpur, the central Shaheed Minar and Public Library premises turned into the heart of the city and thousands of people from all walks in the society enjoyed there colourful programmes and discussions throughout the day till midnight last night.
BSS reports from Faridpur that Pahela Baishakh, the first day of Bangla New Year 1416 was observed in Faridpur by the people of all sect and all ages aimed much fanfare and festivity. The district administration, Faridpur Shilpakala Academy, officers club, Sachetan Nagarik Committee, Faridpur Shahittya Sanskriti Unnayan Sangstha, Faridpur Shahittya Parishad, Faridpur Town Theatre and various other socio-cultural organizations welcome the Bangla New year with songs, dances, discussion and recitations.
At the very dawn yesterday people of all age old, young and children came down on the streets attired with attractive dresses walked towards different celebration venues. The biggest gathering of this only non-sectarian festival was held on the Bunglow premises of Deputy Commissioner. District Shilpakala Academy and district administration organized a musical soiree, recitation session and dance drama on a nicely decorated stage built with the theme of Bangla culture. Deputy Commissioner Helaluddin Ahmed welcomed all on the Pahala Baishakh day. The guests were entertained with sweets and seasonal fruits.
Faridpur Shahitty Sanskrity Unnayan Sangstha organized musical soiree at the court compound Swadhinata Chattar. A weeklong Baishaki Mela organized by this socio-literary organization also has begun yesterday at the same venue. In the evening Faridpur Town theatre organized a cultural function at its premises to mark the occasion.
