Govt. prioritizes technical training to develop skilled manpower

Education Minister Nurul Islam Naheed on Tuesday said the government is giving priority on vocational and technical training to turn the country’s huge population into a skilled manpower. Despite resource constraints and lack of adequate number of institutions, the government is committed to remove the illiteracy from the country by 2014, the minister said while inaugurating “National Training Session in the field of Vocational and Technical Training” at the auditorium of Bangladesh Bureau of Educational Information and Statistics (BANBEIS).
The minister said the present government has a political obligation to invest in education in order to make advancement of human resource aiming at achieving the goal of ‘Digital Bangla desh’ by 2014.
Organised by Bangla-desh National Commission for UNESCO (BNCU), the three day training session is supported by Islamic Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) Regional Office in Tehran and International Islamic Charitable Organi-sation (IICO), Kuwait.
Director, ISESCO Regional Office, Tehran, Dr. Abbas Sadri, Secretary ,BNCU, Abdul Khaleque ,among others, spoke in the inaugural function while Secretary, Ministry of Education, Syed Ataur Rahman chaired.
Education minister told the journalists on the sideline of the function that the committee for formulating the education policy would be able to submit its report within the three months time.
The report would give priority on the development of skilled manpower, Naheed said adding that as the today’s world is competitive, knowledge-based, the issue of vocational and technical training for Bangladeshi people is of a paramount importance.
He said a skilled person or a good technician can greatly contribute in the socio-economic development of a society.
Dr Abbas Sadri said fixing of priorities of vocational and technical training is a challenging task in a gradually changing atmosphere. Development of science and technology and the ever changing socio economic condition also changes the priorities, he added.
