Medical team starts work to prevent swine flu

A seven-member team of physicians started working at the Benapol check post of Jessore on Wednesday morning to identify and prevent swine flu. The team will examine all the passengers and labourers crossing the borders from dawn to dusk every day, said Dr Nazmul Ahsan, team leader and health officer of Sharsha Upazila. Health officials posted at Benapol land port started work from Apr 27 but are yet to find anyone infected with the virus. Every day, around 1,500 passengers and hundreds of labourers pass through the Benapol check post with goods-laden trucks from different provinces of India, said Fazlur Rahman, immigration police inspector at the check post.

Other members of the team are Dr S Krishna Dutt, Dr Farhan Afroz, Dr Abdul Mannan, Dr Amjad Hossain, Dr Jyotish Chandra Roy and health assistant Pronoy Kumar Sarkar.

A separate unit is being opened at 250-bed hospital in Jessore to deal with swine flu.
