June 1, 2009

Bangladesh Football Federation for the first time is going to introduce a development programme at school level to groom the talented buddies to make them top class footballers. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin announced the plan at a crowed press conference in his office Saturday afternoon. He said standard of the school botters is good and they need proper guidance to become national footballer. “We will initially select talented booters after the ongoing tournament and give them a month-long trial and select good ones,” he said. “The selected booters will be given scholarship for next three years.”

The scholarship will cover the entire expense of food accommodation, dress and study, he told a questioner.

Asked how many number of booters they will give scholar, Salahuddin said, “Number doesn’t matter, I need talents.”

Replying to another question Salahuddin said they would continue the scholarship till the end of tenure of the present executive committee. He hoped BFF will carry on the programme for greater interest of football.

The legendary footballer said they are waiting for an approval of State Minister for Sports to get on lease the Sylhet BKSP for the football.

He said that if they get it they will earn from the sponsors an estimated Tk 24 crore from top multinational companies for the development of football.

Meanwhile, a three-member delegation led by BFF boss Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin leaves this evening for Bahamas to take part in the FIFA Congress meeting scheduled for June 1-4. Kazi Nabil Ahmed and Golam Robbani Helal will accompany him.

Salahuddin said he would confirm issues about Bangladesh’s bid to host the SAFF men’s and women’s football championships in 2009 and 2010.

In the Bahamas meeting, Bangladesh expects to take decision on the SAFF Championship. During the AFC Congress, BFF made bids for both the tournaments in Bangladesh. “I am going to fight all the way for the rights because during the next three years, we are planning to make Bangladesh the centre of South Asian football,” said Salahuddin.

He is likely to place a proposal to reconstitute the present SAFF committee as well as to finalize the number of participating teams in the Bangabandhu International Gold Cup tournament in Dhaka late this year.
