Probe on after trains collide at Kamalapur

Railway authorities have formed a four-member committee to investigate cause of the accident after two trains collided head-on at Kamalapur Station on Monday.
Several people were injured but no casualties were immediately reported.
The Dhaka-Chittagong Mahanagar Probhati Express and the Mymensingh-bound Ishakha Express ran into each other at around 2.40pm, as one was pulling out and the other was pulling into the capital’s central terminus, Bangladesh Railway chief Belayet Hossain told bdnews24.com.
“We got no report of casualties yet. We heard only three security personnel were injured,” he said at around 3:10pm.
Hossain said he was on his way to the spot.
Three injured people—security guards Abdur Rahman, 28, and Nahid, 30 and another person Rafiqul Islam, 40—were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a fire service vehicle, bdnews24.com DMCH correspondent said.
Train movement resumed on the line at about 3.40pm.
“We have removed the engine and carriages from the line and the Rajsahi-bound Silk City started at 3.45 pm,” Qazi Asadullah, an additional director general, operations, told bdnews24.com after visiting the accident site.
Two members of the railway’s security forces, one of them critically, were injured in the accident, he added.
“Six to seven passengers have slightly been injured,” T A Chowdhury, another additional director general, told bdnews24.com.
He said the railway authorities had formed a four-member probe body to investigate cause of the accident.
Chief engineer (east) Noor Mohammad would head the probe body, Chowdhury said.
Chief mechanical engineer (east) Ratan Kumar Dey, chief operating superintendent Shah Mohammad Zahir and chief of signal and telecom (east) Shahid Alam Khandker were the other members, Chowdhury said.
