June 27, 2009
Former speaker Jamiruddin Sircar and his deputy Akhtar Hamid Siddiqui did not appear before the all-party parliamentary probe body to defend themselves against allegations of financial irregularities.
“The committee is now waiting for former chief whip Khandaker Delwar Hossain who is scheduled to appear before it at 3:00pm,” ABM Anwarul Haque, a member of the committee, told The Daily Star.
He said the committee sat in a meeting at 10:00am at parliament building and it will decide the next course of action after 3:00pm.
Earlier on June 20, the committee summoned Sircar, Akhtar and Delwar to appear before it on June 27 to defend themselves against allegations of financial irregularities.
Sircar was asked to appear before the committee at 10:00am while Akhtar at 12noon.
Allegations against the BNP leaders include financial irregularities in procurement, appointment and beautification projects in the parliament building complex.
The three also stand accused of using public vehicles and fuel and drawing medical allowances illegally.
