3 Nat’l museum galleries to be closed

The government has decided to shut three galleries of the National Museum to spectators for reflecting the correct history of Liberation War.
An official announcement late on Saturday night said the decision to close down the galleries no 38, 39 and 40 of the National Museum following a meeting held at National Museum auditorium with information and cultural affairs minister in the chair.

Talking to The Daily Star, Prof Kabir Chowdhury, who was present at the meeting today, said that Ziaur Rahman corner (38 B) would also be removed immediately.
“We will correct the history of liberation war as there was attempt to place Bangabandhu and Zia parallel,” he said.
He said that there will be no Bangabandhu corner in the museum, but a large portion of the museum will have real history of Liberation War and Bangabandhu.
The gallery 39 titled “Language Movement Memorial Corner (Basha Andolon Smrity Corner) and at the entry of gallery 40 there are portraits of Bangabandhu and Zia at the entry and medals of Independence Day Award given to Bangabandhu and Zia placed there.
A review meeting was held at the auditorium of the National Museum for “correct reflection of the history of the Liberation War” Saturday. Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad chaired the meeting.
“A correct and objective history and memories of the Liberation War will be installed on the galleries soon,” the handout said.
The meeting was attended by State Minister for Liberation War Affairs AB Tajul Islam, National Professor Kabir Chwodhury, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad, Cultural Affairs Secretary Sharful Alam, Information Secretary Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Rural Development and Cooperatives Division Secretary Samar Chandra Pal, Prof AFM Salahuddin Ahmed, Prof Kazi saleh Ahmed, Dhaka University VC Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique, Prof ASM Nazrul Islam, Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan, Dean of Fine Arts Institute Prof Rafiqun Nabi, Prof Syed Monjurul Islam of DU English Department, Prof Ashit Baral Pal of Archeology Department and Prof Farzana Islam of Anthropology Department of Jahangirnagar University, Engineer Rabiul Hossain, Artists Quayum Chowdhury and Hashem Khan, University Grants Commission Chairman Prof Nazrul Islam and Director General of National Museum Shafiqul Azam, among others, attended the meeting.
