DU English Dptt students protest opening of EMA
July 6, 2009
DU Correspondent — The students of English Department of Dhaka University (DU) demanded immediate cancellation of the decision to open Evening MA Course on the subject.
The students of the department at a press conference at DU Journalists’ Association (DUJA) Sunday said the commercialisation of education in the name of opening Evening MA Course was contrary to the concept of public universities.
“We strongly protest the ill intention of the department teachers to introduce the evening course for their own interest and will go for tougher movement if our demand goes unheeded,” they said.
Meanwhile, Progressive Students’ Alliance, a platform of several left-leaning student organisations, in a press release Sunday protested the decision of Evening Course in English Department.
When contacted, English Department Chairman Khandaker Ashraf Hossain said they would discuss the issue in a meeting of the academic committee of the department tomorrow (Tuesday).
