Govt to recruit 32,000 police in 3yrs

October 4, 2009

Home Minister Sahara Khatun today said the government would recruit around 32,000 police personnel, prioritising women, in the next three years to ensure security of the people.

“The manpower at police department is very much inadequate as there is only one police against 1,200 people,” she said while addressing a seminar as chief guest at Rajarbagh Police Lines in the capital.

Bangladesh Police Women Network in collaboration with Department for International Development (DFID) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organised the seminar titled ‘International Association of Female Police Membership Card Distribution’ at Police Telecom Bhaban.

The home minister said women will be given priority in the recruiting scheme as there are only 2269 female police in the department at present.

On security issue, she said, “The government is committed to ensure security for all but its task would be easy if people from all strata of life, including leader of the opposition, cooperate.”
