Rid boss shown arrested in B’baria case

Managing Director of the Rid Pharma Limited Md Mizanur Rahman was shown arrested in a case filed in Brahmanbaria for manufacturing toxic Paracitamal syrup that claimed the lives of at least 28 children across the country.

District and Sessions Judge’s Court in Brahmanbaria also ordered attachment of the property of three other accused — Rid Pharma director Md Abdul Guni and pharmacists Md Mahbubul Islam and Md Anamul Haque — in the case.

Abdul Khayer Chowdhury, assistant director of Drug Administration Department, Comilla zone, filed the case with a Brahmanbaria court against five officials of Rid Pharma on August 11.

The accused are Md Mizanur Rahamn, the managing director of Rid Pharma, two directors Begum Shiuli Rahman (also wife of Mizanur Rahamn) and Md Abdul Guni and pharmacists Md Mahbubul Islam and Md Anamul Haque.

Of them, Md Mizanur Rahamn are in Dhaka central jail in another case, Begum Shiuli Raman was released on bail while Md Abdul Guni, Md Mahbubul Islam and Md Anamul Haque are still absconding.

Abdul Khayer, in his case, said Paracitamol syrup of Rid Pharma has claimed lives of 28 children across the country and its all medicines, including vitamin syrup, are below standard.

On July 22, Abdul Khayer Chowdhury sealed off Rid Pharma’s factory at Nandanpur in Brahmanbaria as per the order of the Drug Administration Department.

Meanwhile, on August 10, three more cases were filed against Rid Pharma in three districts — Dhaka, Narayanganj and Sylhet.

On October 19, Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge ANM Bashir Ullah rejected the bail prayer of Md Mizanur Rahamn and sent him to jail in the case filed for manufacturing toxic Paracitamal Syrup.
