PM flies to London via Dubai

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on her way to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2009 in Port of Spain, the capital city of Trinidad and Tobago, reached Dubai, UAE, on Thursday. On her arrival at the Dubai International Airport by an Emirates flight at local time 12:30am, the prime minister and the Bangladesh delegation were received by Nazmul Quaunine, the Bangladesh Ambassador in United Arab Emirates. After over two-hour transit waiting, the prime minister and the Bangladesh delegation left Dubai for London at 2:55am. Sheikh Hasina and her team are expected to arrive in Port of Spain at 5:20pm Thursday.

No chance to review extra stimulus: Muhith

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Thursday gave the cold shoulder to the dissent over the extra stimulus package for export industries saying there was no chance to review the package.

The country’s highest export-earning industries’ apex trade bodies–BGMEA and BKMEA–are not too happy with the government-declared bailout package that has been made conditional for the apparel sector. And they made a strong plea for a review.

Remote-controlled bomb kills 6 in Afghanistan

A remote-controlled bomb exploded in eastern Afghanistan yesterday, killing six members of a family, including four children, authorities and relatives said.

The victims were caught in the blast as they travelled in a car on a shopping trip ahead of the Muslim holiday of Eid this weekend, a relative, Qimat Khan, told Associated Press Television at the scene of the bombing in the eastern province of Khost.
