Farmers demand rice purchasing centres

Bangladesh Krishak Samity, an association of farmers, demanded establishing rice purchasing centres across the country with a view to purchasing paddy and rice from the farmer.
The association formed human chain at Muktangan in the city demanding immediate setting up of purchasing centre of paddy and rice.
The farmer leaders addressing the programme, called upon the government to set up the purchasing centres through the association.
They alleged that the rice millers did not follow the government rates to buy paddy and rice and the farmers were deprived of getting due prices.
They also demanded increasing paddy procurement price from Tk 14 to Tk 17 per kg.
President of the association Morshed Ali, General Secretary Sajjad Zahir Chandan, leaders Lina Chakrabarti, Jahid Hossain Khan, Manoj Kumar Gowashami, among others, attended the function, says a press release.
