3 govt officials exempted from court appearance

The High Court on Sunday exempted Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Zillar Rahman, Inspector General (prisons) Brig Gen Ashraful Islam Khan and Jailer of Dhaka Central Jail Mokhlesur Rahman from personal appearance in a contempt of court charge.
A bench of Justice Syed Mohammad Dastagir Husain and Justice Md Rais Uddin came up with the order when the three government high officials appeared before it in the morning.
It fixed January 3 next year for hearing the rule earlier issued by this court upon four high government officials, including the home secretary.
The court on December 8 issued the contempt of court rule against them on charge of not complying with its order for arranging proper treatment for detained BNP leader Abdus Salam Pintu.
The HC however on December 9 exempted the home secretary from personal appearance following a petition moved by the attorney general.
The HC bench today directed the government officials to take steps for proper treatment for Pintu.
