‘Rules soon to make info body effective’
December 3, 2009
The government would soon issue a gazette notification on the rules for making the Information Commission effective, Law Minister Shafique Ahmed said on Thursday.
“The government has enacted the Right to Information Act and constituted the Information Commission and is now framing a set of rules for making the Information Commission effective,” Shafique said.
The law minister told this to reporters after a meeting with a delegation of International Press Institute at his secretariat office this afternoon.
The media of Bangladesh is now fully independent and the journalists are also working independently, he said.
As the government, semi-government and statutory organisations are bound to provide information due to the Right to Information Act, so the journalists are getting information easily, the minister added.
Replying to a question, Shafique Ahmed said if any journalist is tortured during discharging his duty, the government will take action in this regard.
