December 13, 2009

The government has launched an initiative to move over to a unitrack curriculum for primary education amalgamating curriculums of primary schools, kindergartens and madrasas.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said it on Monday at the second ministerial meeting of the South Asian Education for All Forum at Sonargaon Hotel in city on Sunday.
She said the government had formed an education commission in line with its plan to have a viable education system that submitted its recommendations.
The government is reviewing the recommendations and working on how the recommendations could be implemented, the PM said.
Hasina urged all South Asian nations to work hand in hand to ensure education for all. “We have to work together to achieve the EFA goals in the region,” she said.
“We believe that excellence in education is the demand of 21st century. Poor performance at one corner of the world affects the welfare of individuals at the other corner,” she added.
Education ministers and secretaries from Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan and Afghanistan, some education experts and EFA coordinators, among others, were taking part in the meeting.
