Santu Larma escapes gun attack

Chairman of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Regional Council Jyotirindra Bodhipriya Larma popularly known as Santu Larma on Wednesday narrowly escaped gun attacks in Mohalchhari upazila of Khagrachhari.
Santu Larma, also a leader of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS), remained unhurt while his motorcade came under attacks at three spots–Detchhari, Menuchhari and Maishchhari–on his way to the district circuit house, our Khagrachhari correspondent reports.
Relatives meet killers at jail gate

Relatives met five convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Wednesday afternoon, few hours after the Appellate Division rejected their review petitions.
Sources at Dhaka Central Jail said as many as 50 people came to pay a visit to the five convicts –Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Bazlul Huda and AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed.
Bangabandhu killers walk to gallows by Jan 31

Five convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would be executed any day before January 31, Law Minister Shafique Ahmed said on Wednesday.
Five convicts, now behind the bars, are Syed Farooq Rahman, Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, Mohiuddin Ahmed, Bazlul Huda and AKM Mohiuddin Ahmed.

BB pins much hope on global economic recovery

The central bank has found strong link between the performance of the Bangladesh economy in the current fiscal and the pace of recovery of the global economy from deep recession.
In its annual report (for fiscal 2008-09) released Sunday, the Bangladesh Bank expressed the fear that Bangladesh might have to make some downward revision in its medium-term economic forecasts in the event of the third wave of recession.

It was once again the tale of the tail-enders and it was once again the story of Mahmudullah Riyad, who rescued Bangladesh from complete embarrassment on the first day of the second and final Test against India at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
Many may suggest that Riyad is not a tail-ender, but his position in the batting order goes to show that he is one.
