8 JCD leaders sued over DU clash

Shahbagh police has filed a case against Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) General Secretary Amirul Islam Khan Alim, seven other JCD central leaders and 200 to 300 unknown people in connection with Monday’s clash at Dhaka University.

Sub-inspector Mohammad Nasim filed the case Monday evening with Shahbagh Police Station.

JCD Senior Vice-President Shahidul Islam Babul, Join Secretary Amiruzzaman Khan Shimul, Organising Secretary Anisur Rahman Khokon, Join Secretary Asaduzzaman Palash, Cultural Affairs Secretary Tarikul Islam Titu, Science And Technology Secretary Ferdous Ahmed Mollah and Social Welfare Secretary Mahbubul Alam Azam are the others accused JCD central committee leaders.

Ramna Zone Additional Deputy Commissioner Nurul Islam told The Daily Star that the accused people along with 200-300 JCD activists and outsiders on Monday engaged in clashes on DU campus.

None was held in this connection as accused people went into hiding, he added.

On Monday two factions of the JCD, student wing of the opposition BNP, engaged in fierce clashes over places in the new central committee of the party, leaving at least 25 people including the DU proctor, JCD chief and four policemen injured.
