26 Shibir men detained in Rajshahi

Boalia and Motihar police detained 26 suspected cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir from different areas in Rajshahi city on Sunday.

Thirteen people were picked up from Shalbagan area around 12:00pm when they attempted to bring out a protest procession, said Jasim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station.

Motihar police arrested 10 people from different private hostels in the city, reports our staff correspondent in Rajshahi.

Tofazzel Hossain, OC of Motihar Police Station, said eight of them are accused in six cases filed for the recent Rajshahi University incident.

In another drive, police picked up three students from RU campus. They are Shafiqul Islam, Sabuj Miah and Wasim Akram Nahid.

Police said BCL workers attacked Shafiqul and Sabuj after identifying them as Shibir activists when they were passing by library science department around 12:00 noon.

On information, police rushed in and rescued Shafiqul and Sabuj.

They also arrested Wasim, one of the associates of Shafiqul and Sabuj, after BCL activists found four identity cards from his possessions.
