Sec 144 withdrawn as tension eases in Khagrachhari

February 28, 2010

The Khagrachhari administration on Sunday withdrew the section 144 imposed on February 23 in the town after violence erupted between indigenous people and Bangalee settlers.

M Abdullah, deputy commissioner of Khagrachhari, told The Daily Star that he had withdrawn the section 144 around 12noon as a calm and quiet situation has been prevailing in the hilly district town, our Khagrachhari correspondent reports.

He said normalcy has returned to the district headquarters and the affected families have begun to go back to their residences.

Abdullah said the district administration has already distributed relief materials and cash among the affected families and the distribution of corrugated iron sheets will begin in March.
