Arrest warrant against Tarique withdrawn

March 2, 2010

A Dhaka court on Tuesday withdrew the arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman a day after it was issued in an extortion case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hassan Talukder, who had issued the warrant on Monday, passed the order after counsels for the BNP Senior Vice Chairman appealed for withdrawal.

The court on Monday cancelled bail of Tarique and his business partner Giasuddin Al Mamun.

In addition to them, four others also face arrest in the same case as they breached the terms and conditions of bail.

The joint forces arrested Tarique Rahman on March 7 in 2007 during emergency period of the caretaker government.

He was released on September 2008 for treatment in abroad.
