Mother attempts suicide killing 3 children in Barisal

A mentally retarded woman attempted to commit suicide after killing her three children at Khudrakathi village in Babuganj upazila Thursday morning.
Local sources said Renu Begum, wife of Abdul Malek, strangled her three children — Maria Akter, 13, Mainul Islam, 7, and Mariam Akter, 4, — in the morning and threw the bodies into a pond nearby their house.
Officer-in-charge Abul Khaer of Babuganj Police Station said Abdul Malek found the bodies of his children floating in the pond water. On information, police recovered the bodies at about 9:30am, reports a correspondent from Barisal.
Meanwhile, Renu, 30, after killing her children jumped into the river Sugandha, flows beside Dakshin Rakudia village, to commit suicide. A fisherman rescued her at about 11:30am and handed her over to the police.
The mother told the villagers that she killed her children, locals said.
