HSC pass rate rises 1.5pc point

The pass percentage of this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate and its equivalent examinations is 74.28, which is 1.5 percentage point higher than the last year’s results.
Total GPA-5 scorers in this year’s examinations are 28,671, which are 8,545 more than the previous year.
Of the 10 education boards, Dhaka, Rajshahi, Comilla, Jessore, Chittagong, Barisal, Sylhet and Dinajpur boards got pass percentage of 71.82.
The students will get their results on websites of respective boards and through mobile phones. They will also get results clicking on the websites www.educationboardresults.gov.bd
Out of the total 718,084 examinees, 533,369 passed the HSC and its equivalent examinations.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid in presence of the chairmen of eight general education boards and Technical and Madrasa Education Boards handed over the result sheets to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
On the occasion, the PM talked to teachers and students of Government Bangabandhu College, Gopalganj; and Sylhet Mahila College through video conferencing.
The number of this year’s exam centres was 2,037. The exams were also held in five overseas centres in Jeddah, Riyadh, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Tripoli for a total of 146 candidates.
Talking to the education minister and the chairmen of the education boards, Hasina expressed her satisfaction over the result.
She congratulated the successful examinees and suggested those who could not pass this year to be more attentive in their studies and achieve success in future.
Hasina said she wants to see in future that every student passes the examinations.
“Those of you who could not pass this year do not get frustrated. All boys and girls of our country are talented. They all can pass the exams if they are given proper support and guidance,” she said.
The PM said her government is strongly committed to improve the quality of education at all level.
She mentioned that the highest allocation in the new budget has been given to the education sector.
“We’ll do everything for raising the standard of our education to the highest level,” she said.
Hasina observed that without quality education, a nation in this modern world couldn’t attain the desired development and prosperity.
She thanked the education ministry, all education boards, teachers and students for their contributions in holding the examinations successfully.
The premier also gave special thanks to the education minister and the chairmen of all boards for publishing the results without wasting time.
