BUET study finds faulty vehicle, driver’s mistake
August 3, 2010
The Dhaka University (DU) authorities are in the process of initiating steps to withdraw an expulsion order against one of its best-known students, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, by the then university authorities for spearheading a strike by the Class IV employees of the university 62 years ago.
The DU authorities, at the behest of the autocratic Pakistani government, had executed the expulsion order against Bangabandhu, who was then a student of the Law faculty, for organising the strike to press home the demand for better pay and services in 1948, reports BSS.
DU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique told the news agency, “We welcome the demand for withdrawal of the expulsion order to respect the due rights of Bangabandhu, as we all want to respectfully restore his rights.
“I would talk to the education minister in this regard and eventually, would place this proposal before the DU authorities for discussion,” Arefin said.
