Surma, Kushiyara flow above danger level

Surma and Kushiyara rivers are flowing above their danger level over the last few days due to the rise in the water level following the seasonal rainfall.

According to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), water level of 51 water measuring points out of 73 has risen alarmingly during the last few days. The water level may increase in the next two to three days, if the rainfall continues, the forecast said.

Assistant Engineer of FFWC Arifuzzaman said the Sirajganj and Bahadurabad points of Jamuna river water level would cross the danger level within two to three days, if water continues to swell in this pace.

Five northeast points of Surma-Kushiyara rivers have already crossed the danger level. The Sheola and Amalshid stations of Kushiyara have crossed the danger level by 22 and 1 centimetre respectively while the Kanaighat station of Surma has surpassed the danger level by 30cm till 6:00am on Saturday.

If the seasonal rainfall continues in India and Bangladesh, the different upstream river points in the northern regions might cross the danger level.
