Finance minister AMA Muhith has admitted lack of coordination in the war crimes investigation.

The minister also said that a new chief would be appointed soon to the war crime investigation agency.

Muhith, one of the most influential cabinet ministers, was talking to reporters at the cabinet on Wednesday after attending a meeting of the government committee formed to coordinate the war crimes investigation.

Law minister Shafiq Ahmed, home minister Sahara Khatun, planning minister AK Khandaker, foreign minister Dipu Moni, state ministers for law Kamrul Islam and for local government affairs Janhangir Kabir Nanok, were also present at the meeting.

The finance minister told reporters, “There is a lack of coordination between the prosecution team and investigation agency. We have decided to form a steering committee to resolve the problem. Moreover, a new chief will also be appointed soon.”

Finance would not be a matter of concern in the trial, Muthith said, a total of Tk120 million had already been allocated for this purpose. More funds would be given out if necessary, he added.

Foreign minister Dipu Moni said the government is whole-heartedly willing to keep the trial process transparent and maintain an international standard.

The foreign ministry is working to collect information on the suspected war criminals, she added.
