Six cocktails rocked the capital’s Bijoynagar and Naya Paltan areas Monday afternoon.
No injuries were reported. But a canopy of panic spread in the areas.
The first three explosions occurred within minutes of each other around 4:00pm on Bijoynagar Road a few hundred yards off the main opposition BNP’s protest rally.
Rapid Action Battalion and police personnel were deployed during the time there to maintain law and order situation during the BNP’s demonstration programme.
“We saw someone running away immediately after the blasts,” said Anwar Hossain, deputy police commission of Motijheel division.
The last three explosions took place successively around 4:50pm in front of BNP’s central office, dispersing the party leaders and activist from the scene.
The main opposition BNP held the demonstration in front of its Naya Paltan central office in protest against for what they said government’s ‘repression and police attack’ on opposition activist that left 2 people dead on Sunday.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the programme at a press briefing at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office Sunday night following the day’s countrywide violence.
