Surma, Kushiyara flow above danger level

Surma and Kushiyara rivers are flowing above their danger level over the last few days due to the rise in the water level following the seasonal rainfall.
According to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), water level of 51 water measuring points out of 73 has risen alarmingly during the last few days. The water level may increase in the next two to three days, if the rainfall continues, the forecast said.
Ensure admission facilities for every SSC, HSC passed students: Hasina

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday ordered the authorities concerned to ensure cent per cent admission facilities for every SSC and HSC passed students into colleges and universities.
Hasina gave the instruction in her speech at the inaugural function of the first senior staff course and unveiling plaque of administrative building of National Academy for Educational Management (NAEM) at its auditorium, reports UNB.

There is a common perception that all learning should be serious. Almost all the guardians, school authorities and even many teachers strongly hold this opinion. Hence, they don’t want the teachers to use game in the classroom particularly in the language class. They think it to be the wastage of time in the class. But nowadays language specialists, researchers and textbook writers opine that using games in the language class is one of the most essential and effective tools to teach language. Though playing games it is possible to learn and teach a language as well as enjoy oneself at the same time. One of the best ways to do this is through games. Language learning is a hard task which can sometimes be frustrating. Constant effort is required to understand, produce and manipulate the target language. Well-chosen games are invaluable as they give students a chance at the same time allow students to practice language skills. Games are highly motivating since they are amusing and at the same time challenging. Furthermore, they employ meaningful and useful language in real contexts. Games are highly motivating because they are amusing and interesting. They can be used to give practice in all language skills and be used to practice many types of communication. Language learning is really a difficult task. Efforts are required and must be maintained over a long period of time. Games help and encourage many learners to sustain their interest and work. Games also help the teacher create contexts in which the language is useful and meaningful. The learners want to take part and in order to do so must understand what others are saying or have written and they must speak or write in order to express their own point of view or give information.
HSC pass rate rises 1.5pc point

The pass percentage of this year’s Higher Secondary Certificate and its equivalent examinations is 74.28, which is 1.5 percentage point higher than the last year’s results.
Total GPA-5 scorers in this year’s examinations are 28,671, which are 8,545 more than the previous year.
First viva of 27 BCS illegal: SC

The Supreme Court has upheld the High Court judgement that cancelled the first viva voce of 27th BCS exams.
The apex court has also disposed of three government leaves to appeal, with some observations, against another High Court order that declared illegal the second viva voce.
$500,000 ADB grant to improve teaching quality

Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide US$ 500,000 technical assistance grant to Bangladesh for further improving teaching quality of secondary education in the country.
The ADB signed an agreement to this effect with Bangladesh at a simple ceremony at the NEC in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city on Thursday.
Internet at all public offices in 7 divisions, 64 districts by Dec

All public offices in seven divisional headquarters and 64 districts would get computers with high-speed Internet connections through fibre optics by December this year, reports BSS.
The Internet services at all public offices would establish connectivity with the upcoming information centres in progress at all the 4,501 unions, making a bridge of information between the rural people and the government service providing organisations.
Compulsory primary education up to class 8

The government has approved a new national education policy with provision for free and compulsory primary schooling up to class eight.
The decision came from a weekly meeting of the cabinet on Monday chaired by prime minister Sheikh Hasina, her press secretary Abul Kalam Azad told a briefing.

The cabinet on Monday approved the National Education Policy 2010 making education free and compulsory up to class VIII for all.
According to the policy, the primary education would be up to class VIII and secondary education up to class XII.
