Secondary schools to get 1,414 laptops

The Ministry of Education has decided to provide some 1,414 laptops to secondary schools of the country as part of the government’s Digital Bangladesh programme. Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid will formally distribute laptops among representatives of 50 schools at the city’s Shikhkha Bhaban. — UNB

BFF to introduce scholarship for talented school booters

Bangladesh Football Federation for the first time is going to introduce a development programme at school level to groom the talented buddies to make them top class footballers. Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Kazi Mohammad Salahuddin announced the plan at a crowed press conference in his office Saturday afternoon. He said standard of the school botters is good and they need proper guidance to become national footballer. “We will initially select talented booters after the ongoing tournament and give them a month-long trial and select good ones,” he said. “The selected booters will be given scholarship for next three years.” Read more

Food for school students suggested to reduce drop out

In Bangladesh, about 50 percent students leave schools before passing class five and 83 percents students do it before passing secondary school certificate examination for poverty and various reason. Quoting a report published in English daily recently, the speakers at a seminar suggested to introduce feeding programme at the primary and the high school level for reducing drop-out from schools. They urged the concerned authority to ensure feeding of students, and to ensure toilet and lavatory and playground at school premises for inspiring students to stay on.

Pass percentage slides in SSC exams

Marking a halt to the upward trend in pass percentage by recording a 2 percent slide, 70.89 percent students have passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and its equivalent Dakhil and SSC Vocational examinations under ten education boards this year as against 72.18 percent in 2008 which had seen a 13.82 percent jump from 58.36 percent in 2007. According to the results published on Tuesday, the average pass percentage of eight education boards is 67.41 this year against 70.81 last year. Read more
