Koko asked to appear in court May 13

A Dhaka court on Thursday asked Arafat Rahman Koko, the youngest son of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, to appear before it on May 13 this year in connection with a money laundering case.
Senior Special Judge ANM Bashir Ullah passed the order after Koko’s lawyers appealed to the court saying that their client was earlier released on parole and has gone abroad for treatment. So, he could not appear the court on Thursday.
The court also directed the officers-in -charge of Comilla Sadar and Gulshan police stations to submit report by the same date on execution of arrest warrant against Ismail Hossain Saimon, son of former Shipping Minister late Akbar Hossain, in the same case.
The Anti-corruption Commission filed the case against Koko on March 17 last year under the money laundering law for siphoning off Tk 19,70,25,000 to Singapore.

Charge framing hearing against Babar on Apr 11

A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed April 11 for hearing on charge framing against detained former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar in a tax evasion case.
Judge Nasiruddin Mahmud of the Special Judge Court-5 passed the order following a time petition submitted by a counsel of Babar.
MiG-29 case against Hasina quashed

The High Court on Tuesday quashed all proceedings against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the MiG-29 corruption case filed during the BNP-Jamaat alliance rule.
It also declared illegal the proceedings against Hasina.
The court observed that there was no element of misappropriation of state fund by Hasina in this case, which was filed with an ulterior motive to damage her image and popularity.
Arrest warrant against Tarique withdrawn

A Dhaka court on Tuesday withdrew the arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman a day after it was issued in an extortion case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hassan Talukder, who had issued the warrant on Monday, passed the order after counsels for the BNP Senior Vice Chairman appealed for withdrawal.
BNP man killed in clash with AL in Meherpur

A BNP leader was killed and 35 people injured during a clash with Awami League activists at Mailmary village in Gangni upazila on Meherpur district Saturday morning.
The dead was identified as Sentu, 30, son of Akkas Ali of Dhala village and BNP organising secretary of Shaharbati Union in Gangni upazila, reports our Meherpur correspondent.
BNP calls hartal protesting killing of DCC councillor

Main opposition BNP has called a half-day strike at Ward-70 of Dhaka City Corporation on Thursday protesting the killing of Haji Ahammad Hossain, the councillor of the ward.
Ward-70 is in the old part of the city.
BNP Tuesday midnight took the decision to enforce the strike along with some other programmes, according to party sources.
Two criminals Tuesday night shot and killed councillor Ahamad as he was leaving Alubazar Masjid on Hajji Osman Gani Road at Bangshal in the capital.
This will be the first such programme of BNP as opposition after the Awami League-led grand alliance assumed power in January 2009 following a landslide victory in the December 29 parliamentary elections.
The party will also hold demonstration at the city’s Muktangon Saturday afternoon in protest of the killing of Ahammad.
Ahammad, also the Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal Dhaka city south unit president, reportedly succumbed to his bullet injuries at the city’s Square Hospital at 10:00pm.
He came under gun attack at the old part of the city earlier in the evening.
Jubo Dal will stage demonstration in the afternoon in front of Nayapaltan BNP central office protesting the killing.
BNP will hold a doa mahfil at its central office Friday afternoon seeking divine blessings for peace of the departed soul of Haji Ahammad Hossain.
Rivals attack dist BNP meeting, explode bombs

Rivals attacked a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) district committee meeting and ransacked the house of advocate Haroon Al Rashid, district convener and central vice-president of BNP here on Saturday evening.
Haroon’s younger brother Shahin Al Rashid yesterday filed a case with Brahmanbaria Sadar police station accusing 30 people of carrying out the attack.

Judge ANM Bashir Ullah of the Senior Special Judge’s Court passed the order after Koko’s lawyers informed the court that the home ministry on December 14 last year extended his parole for two months.

Religion-based political parties of the country will be banned, said the law minister on Monday.
But the words ‘Bismillahir Rahmanir Rahim’ and state religion Islam will remain in force in the constitution, said the minister.
