PM warns against garment anarchy, sabotage

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday warned against any attempt to destabilise the garments sector as a section of workers took to the streets despite the announcement of the new wage structure raising the pay by 80 percent at a time.
“No anarchy and sabotage in this sector will be tolerated,” she said in a teleconference from her Ganobhaban official residence, marking the launching of Bangabandhu Poverty Reduction Complex of BGMEA at Tungipara of Gopalganj.
Wrongdoers would never be spared: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Tuesday said some opportunist people have sneaked into her ruling party with a perception that they would remain safe after doing wrongs but she cautioned wrongdoers would never be spared.
“I like to say in clear-cut terms that whoever they may be — Chhatra League or Swechchhasebak Leagu – would never ever be spared after committing offences or repressing people,” she said. “I will not tolerate any kind of indiscipline or chaos.”

Hasina calls on DCs to ’serve the people’

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina urged deputy commissioners to work with a mentality of serving the people, pointing out that they were responsible for conveying findings to the government about the situation at the local level so that it can address the issues.
She was speaking at the inauguration of the three-day Deputy Commissioner conference, the 22nd since the country’s independence, at the international conference centre in the prime minister’s office on Sunday that started around 10am.
PM asks DCs to resist militancy

She also directed the DCs to be alert so that nobody can create unrest across the country ‘as the anti-liberation forces can become active anytime to destroy the country’s democracy, resist the war crimes trial and embarrass the government’.
Govt mulls education fund for poor students: PM

The government has a plan to create an education fund to facilitate poor students with free education in a bid to increase literacy rate as well as to ensure higher education for all.

PM inaugurates National Fisheries Week

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday inaugurated the National Fisheries Week-2010 with a call for making all out efforts to attain fish production target of 29 lakh metric tons this year.
Hasina in her inaugural speech at Osmani Memorial auditorium emphasised on introducing fishermen’s card for reaching the government’s cash incentives and other facilities directly to the people living on fishing.

Actions on past irregularities: Manzur

New Chittagong city mayor M Manzur Alam has said any irregularities in the city corporation in the past will be looked into for effective actions.
He said this in a brief press conference after moving into the mayor office on Tuesday.
He declared that resolving the water-logging problem of the port city is his major goal. “A separate standing committee will be formed in the first general meeting scheduled on July 26 to take effective steps to resolve water-logging.”
