RMG workers block highway over fellow’s death

Garment workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway for a half an hour following the death of a fellow worker in a road accident near Targachha in Gazipur Sadar Upazila Wednesday morning.
They also vandalised 7 to 8 vehicles protesting the killing, reports a correspondent from Gazipur.
50 hurt as police, RMG workers clash in N’ganj

At least 50 people, including 12 law enforcers, were injured in a clash between police and workers of a readymade garment at Kanchpur in Narayanganj Tuesday morning.
The clash ensued when the workers of SA Fashion & Apparels Limited put blockade on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and vandalised 10 to 12 vehicles and also set fire to a bus.
Workers halt granite extraction in Dinajpur

The production at Madhyapara Granite Mine Company Limited (MGMCL) in Dinajpur remains halted as its workers started an indefinite strike since Saturday midnight demanding job regularisation and arrears.
Meanwhile, the company authorities have offered talks with the demonstrators at about 3:00pm at its rest house. In reply, the leaders of the MGMCL miners union said they want to sit with the authorities at their workplace.
Waterways strike eases on 6th day

At least ten scheduled launches left Sadarghat Launch Terminal for their respective destinations Thursday morning partially easing the standstill in river communication.
The situation eased a little after Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan’s ultimatum to the strikers on Wednesday to return to work by 5:00pm today.
Pickup hurts 3 Barapukuria miners during strike

At least three miners of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd were injured as a pickup truck of the company hit the workers while they were observing an indefinite strike in front of the office in Dinajpur.
Around 1,100 miners of BCMCL went on the strike since Monday midnight after the BCMCL authority had failed to implement the 2008 tripartite agreement, our Dinajpur correspondent reports.
Sit-in, rally demanding better railway service

A large number of people yesterday held sit-in and rally at the railway station in the town demanding better railway service.
Their seven-point demand included modernisation of railway infrastructure and introduction of inter-city train.

Hundreds of Jamaat, Shibir men sued for Nilphamari clashes

Two cases were filed against several hundreds of activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its associated student organisation Islami Chhatra Shibir following Saturday night’s clashes in Nilphamari.
Bangladesh Chhatra League vice-president of Nilphamari district unit Arif Hossain filed one of the cases with Sadar Police Station against 107 identified and over one hundred anonymous leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir, including the Jamaat district ameer.
