MiG-29 case against Hasina quashed

The High Court on Tuesday quashed all proceedings against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the MiG-29 corruption case filed during the BNP-Jamaat alliance rule.

It also declared illegal the proceedings against Hasina.

The court observed that there was no element of misappropriation of state fund by Hasina in this case, which was filed with an ulterior motive to damage her image and popularity.

PM says govt working on ‘health services for all’

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday said the government is working to reach the health services to the doorsteps of all people across the country.

Meanwhile, 6.82 lakh people in 400 upazilas have received health services through the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust. People in rural areas are now getting health services sitting at their houses as per the pledges of the grand alliance government, she said.

Police again take control of Proshika HQ

Pallabi police along with detective branch personnel took control of the head office of Proshika, country’s one of the largest non-government organisations (NGO), in the capital’s Mirpur area early Thursday, ousting its 60 staff.

The action of the police came when two appeal petitions have remained pending in the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court.

Sec 144 withdrawn as tension eases in Khagrachhari

The Khagrachhari administration on Sunday withdrew the section 144 imposed on February 23 in the town after violence erupted between indigenous people and Bangalee settlers.

M Abdullah, deputy commissioner of Khagrachhari, told The Daily Star that he had withdrawn the section 144 around 12noon as a calm and quiet situation has been prevailing in the hilly district town, our Khagrachhari correspondent reports.

Man arrested for threatening Taposh

Rapid Action Battalion members arrested a man from Khulshi residential area in Chittagong city early Monday on charge of threatening Awami League lawmaker Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh over cell phone.

The arrestee was identified as Sohel Rana, 23, son of Md Amir Hossain of Rasulpur village in Zokiganj upazila of Sylhet.

Criminal killed in gunfight with security forces in Rangamati

An indigenous criminal was shot dead during a heavy gunfight with security forces at Gangaram Mukh village in Baghaichhari upazila of Rangamati district Saturday morning.

Police confirmed the death of criminal Bijoy Laxmi Chakma and said he was killed by bullet shot by his fellows, reports our Khagrachhari correspondent.

Rajuk resumes demolition of Jamuna park floors

Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipokkho (Rajuk) Thursday morning resumed its demolition drive to knock down illegally built top four floors of Jamuna Future Park Shopping Complex in the city following dismissal of an appeal petition filed by the building owner with the Supreme Court.

The Rajuk decided to demolish only the partition wall of the unauthorised four floors manually with 45 labourers.

BCL suspends activities at Kushtia college
