Bangladesh claims quick wickets

Shakib Al Hasan grabbed two quick wickets to help Bangladesh restrict Sri Lanka to 139-4 at tea on the opening day of the first Test here on Friday. The left-arm spinner dismissed Kumar Sangakkara (43) and skipper Mahela Jayawardene (three) when the visitors looked set to post a big total after electing to bat. Sri Lanka were comfortably placed at 119-1 following a 95-run stand for the second wicket between Michael Vandort (44) and Sangakkara, but lost both the well-set batsmen in quick succession.

BCB XI and Sri Lanka practice match ends in draw

The three-day practice match between BCB XI and the touring Sri Lanka ended in draw on the third and final day at BKSP in Savar on Tuesday. Replying to BCB XI’s paltry first innings total of 88 for all, Sri Lanka, which resumed the first innings with overnight 36 for two, was all out for 316 runs in 95.3 overs at stumps on the final day.

BCB XI dismissed for 88 against Sri Lanka

BCB XI was bundled out for 88 runs in the first innings against touring Sri Lanka on the second day of the three-day practice match at BKSP in Savar on Monday. The day’s match started late at 12pm due to wet pitch and again had to be stopped at 4:22 pm due to bad light. The first day’s play of the three-day practice match between the two teams was called off on Sunday without a single ball bowled due to heavy fog and bad weather at the games venue and elsewhere in the country.

First Test tickets go on sale from tomorrow

The tickets for the first Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka go on sale from tomorrow at all nominated branches of AB Bank Limited in Dhaka. The tickets will also be available at designated ticket booths of the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Mirpur on the match days. The ticket counters will be open for public at 8:00 o’clock in the morning.

Sri Lanka to tour Pakistan

Sri Lanka has confirmed it will tour Pakistan from next month, filling in after India withdrew from its scheduled tour in the wake of the Mumbai terrorist attacks. “Today we have received the confirmation from Sri Lanka and the series begins in the fourth week of January,” Pakistan Cricket Board chief operating officer Salim Altaf told AP on Friday.

Batting great Sachin Tendulkar hit an unbeaten 103 as India achieved the fourth-highest run chase in history to stun England by six wickets in the first Test here on Monday. The hosts surpassed the seemingly improbable victory target of 387 on a wearing wicket with 20.3 overs to spare on the fifth and final day to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Tendulkar swept off-spinner Graeme Swann to fine-leg for the winning boundary that also brought up his 41st Test century amid loud cheers from 30,000 home fans at the Chidambaram stadium.

England on top despite Sehwag blitz

Virender Sehwag smashed a quickfire 83 off 68 balls as India made a spirited start in their chase of a history-defying target in the first Test against England here on Sunday. The hosts ended the fourth day’s play at 131 for one in their second innings after being set 387 to win by England captain Kevin Pietersen, a target never achieved before on Indian soil. England declared their second innings at 311-9 soon after tea, the total revolving around Andrew Strauss’ second century in the match and 108 from Paul Collingwood.
